Dr. Amadou N’Famoussa Diakit, MD, MPH Board member
With over 10 years of experience in Mali’s health sector policy, Dr. Amadou N’Famoussa DIAKITE graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of Bamako (FMPOS) after defending his thesis on non-traumatic chest pains in the emergency department of CHU Gabriel Touré in Bamako in 2011.
In 2013, he was among the 80 successful candidates out of over 3000 applicants in the public service competition. He was assigned to the Reference Health Center of Goundam in the Tombouctou region, which was almost occupied by separatist, Islamist, terrorist, and drug trafficking armed groups.
After seven years in clinical patient care at this “district hospital,” in 2020, he obtained his master’s degree in public health, specializing in “Society and Development” from Aix Marseille University in France. His thesis topic was “Analysis of the activities and accounts of the Goundam Reference Health Center in 2017 and perspectives,” supervised by Dr. Hubert BALIQUE, former Professor at SESSTIM of Aix Marseille University and a key figure in Malian health policy.
Also in 2020, he was appointed Chief Medical Officer of the Gourma Rharous Health District in the tri-border area (Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger) known as LIPTAKO GOURMA, a position he holds to this day.
Dr. DIAKITE has extensive experience in implementing Mali’s health and population sector policies and has been the focal point for several health programs at the operational level.
Clinically, his intervention in the care of victims of the “Tombouctou” boat attack on September 7, 2024, by terrorists demonstrates his skills in emergency management and care, as evidenced by his thesis location: “the emergency department.”
His adherence to the oath he took has enabled him to practice his profession and medical responsibility throughout his health district as a state agent in an area where several antagonistic forces operate without any interaction.
Despite this insecurity context, he has successfully organized all major mass campaigns in his district with significant results (COVID-19 vaccination campaign, polio campaign, measles campaign, vitamin A administration campaign, neglected tropical diseases campaign, seasonal malaria chemoprevention campaign, measles-rubella campaign, etc.).
Dr. DIAKITE is a consultant for several health actors, particularly civil society organizations involved in health and public hygiene.
